The Workplace Intelligence Unit has been created to stimulate a re-appraisal of the role of the workplace in delivering corporate strategy, and to lead the development of innovative property strategies that drive business performance

A successful workplace is one that can be justified on the value it adds to the business rather than on cost savings alone. It facilitates distinctive ways of working, reflects and reinforces the corporate identity, and improves the productivity of the occupants

At the workplace intelligence unit, we believe the following principles form the foundation of good workplace strategy :

  1. the starting point for new workplace design must be the company’s high level objectives and corporate strategy – the working environment is then designed to help deliver these business goals
  2. to optimise the benefits which the workplace can deliver, a “joined up” approach is necessary, combining the input of human resources, IT, property and marketing functions
  3. the workplace stimulates and supports the productivity of its occupants – organisations should monitor and manage the interrelationships between workforce productivity and the working environment
  4. workplace change often requires a fundamental shift in the work-styles and behaviours of employees – organisations must engage people throughout the workplace programme so they can adapt productively to the new environment
